Windows could not start the IBM HTTP Server 7.0 on Local Computer

When I ran IHS from the services applet I go the following error:

Windows could not start the IBM HTTP Server 7.0 on Local Computer.

Let’s have a look at the event log

The IBM HTTP Server 7.0 service terminated with service-specific error Incorrect function.

This was because I had installed IBM HTTP Server 7 before and had uninstalled and not restarted and the service from the previous installation has not been fully removed.

In Windows when adding and remove services restarts are recommended.

Or if you are very brave you can manually adjust the Windows registry, though not recommended unless you know what you are doing. Always back up the Windows registry before you ever edit it directly.
